"Thank you for DogStarNYC, in general. The site speaks to so many kinds of interests; it discerns which qualities will appeal to many different tastes in a tremendous number of activities. I love how it encourages young people to pay attention to the unusual.

In New York we let so many teens walk around the periphery, mildly shell-shocked by life, while the information that they need to make sense of their world sits in the center of the room. DogStarNYC welcomes them into the middle of the room; the blog tells them how to walk there." - Stacy L.

FREE! See Yumi Roth's fresh take on "F.O.B." at Essex Street Market's Cuchifritos Gallery

DOG STAR enjoys Yumi Janairo Roth's art work:  she makes smart, meaningful and thought-provoking projects that aim to get us thinking about consumerism, participation in public space and challenges how we think of our relations with strangers.

In the photo above, she was interested in making designer logos using the most democratic process possible.  So, she made stamps of the Louis Vuitton, Prada and Dolce & Gabanna logos from potatoes.  DOG STAR thinks this is very funny:  if the logos - supposedly so chic and exclusive - can be reproduced like this on anything, what does it say about our love affair with brands?  Perhaps a bit silly, huh?

She has done many projects around the world.  One of her favorites - and in different versions- is to make maps that didn't exist before she arrived.  In the Phillipines, she made "route maps" for Jeepneys - like the dollar vans in Flatbush, Brooklyn - and these were printed, distributed and kept inside vans for customers.

Now, Yumi opens a new project at Cuchifritos and you have just ONE MONTH to check it out!

Her new project is called "F.O.B." - this can mean "Freight on Board" and "Fresh Off the Boat" and often refers to recent immigrants.

Here for Yumi Roth's website with great history (pics and info) of her projects
