"Thank you for DogStarNYC, in general. The site speaks to so many kinds of interests; it discerns which qualities will appeal to many different tastes in a tremendous number of activities. I love how it encourages young people to pay attention to the unusual.
In New York we let so many teens walk around the periphery, mildly shell-shocked by life, while the information that they need to make sense of their world sits in the center of the room. DogStarNYC welcomes them into the middle of the room; the blog tells them how to walk there." - Stacy L.

FREE! See "Downtown Pix" at NYU's Grey Art Gallery
The entrance is right on the street so DOG STAR readers should not hesitate about going - you don't have to go to NYU to have access and it is open to the public.
"Downtown Pix" pulls together photographs and photographers who lived and worked together in the East Village and Lower Manhattan (below 14th street) between 1961 and 1991. The material is taken from NYU's archives and has been collected and donated over the years by many of the artists and their friends.
What's going to make this interesting for DOG STAR readers is an opportunity to discover the rich artistic and cultural scene that evolved in an area that has changed dramatically and no longer supports the arts in the same way. It is a difficult thing to describe or to explain but this gallery show will help learn more about it.
It is just no longer possible to find the tiny art gallery, studio space or nightclub with poets and painters hanging out together. Rents are way too high and the whole cultural life of the area has changed to invite constant turnover in residents and businesses.
Artists, poets, gallery owners and their friends would gather in studios, in tiny little storefront art galleries and hang out at small nightclubs all over the East Village. Many people in this scene lived their daily lives making art, searching for art sources and collaborating with each other on projects and parties.
