"Thank you for DogStarNYC, in general. The site speaks to so many kinds of interests; it discerns which qualities will appeal to many different tastes in a tremendous number of activities. I love how it encourages young people to pay attention to the unusual.

In New York we let so many teens walk around the periphery, mildly shell-shocked by life, while the information that they need to make sense of their world sits in the center of the room. DogStarNYC welcomes them into the middle of the room; the blog tells them how to walk there." - Stacy L.

FREE! This Monday Night: Tribute to a Movie Legend at New York Public Library

DOG STAR readers know a lot about today's film legends but there was a time in American culture when "film legend" was used a little more, shall we say, with taste and distinction.  In today's world someone is a film legend if they've been in a film series (Daniel Radcliffe, Elijah Wood) or appeared in their first film and won an Oscar (Jennifer Hudson).

This Monday night the New York Public Library (at the main building on Fifth Avenue & 42nd Street) will host a FREE tribute to Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.  Fairbanks appeared in films in the 1930s through the 1960s.  He is best known for playing in THE PRISONER OF ZENDA and appeared in over 100 movies.

New York Knight: A Centennial Tribute to Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (1909-2000)
Jane Alexander, Vera Fairbanks, Leatrice Gilbert Fountain, Jamie Niven, and others remember Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. in a program moderated by Foster Hirsch. Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. was an American actor and a highly decorated officer in World War II. He was made a Knight Commander of the British Empire (KBE) in 1949.
